Chief Executive Officer

Carla’s career in legal services spans several decades and includes experience in private practice as a commercial litigator, leading an investigations and disputes team at a large bank, Chief Innovation Officer at a large national Canadian law firm and building and managing the Canadian and LatAm business for a global alternative legal services provider. Carla obtained degrees in Theatre and Law from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, and an MBA from Rotman/University of Toronto.

Vice President, Technology and Operations

Life long technology expert with 17 years of legal tech experience at a large Canadian law firm, previous owner of a software development company, and over a decade as technical director at a large university. Terry’s experience covers software development, solution architecting, automation, analytics, and web.

Daniel Himmel

Daniel Himmel

Vice President, Transactional Products & Strategy

Corporate lawyer turned technology generalist, Daniel was a seasoned M&A attorney and in house counsel before joining an early stage legal tech company focused on AI powered contract review software. While there, Daniel built and led teams of subject matter experts responsible for advising large global corporate and legal clients on digital transformation. Daniel recently joined Cleary X as a senior leader to help form and execute its transactional product strategy.

Kathleen Killin

Senior Director, Marketing & Business Development

Kathleen holds experience in the art, technology and legal worlds. A lawyer by trade, she has a depth of experience in legal technology, working with some of the earliest legal tech providers. Kathleen regularly presents at conferences on AI and innovation in the legal industry and was featured as a Women of Legal Tech by American Lawyer Magazine and Legal Tech News. She holds degrees from University of Toronto, University of London, Sotheby’s Institute of Art and Osgoode Hall Law School.

Responsible for the design and implementation of the project management framework at ClearyX, Oliver has over a decade of legal industry project management experience. Prior to joining ClearyX Oliver worked in the Innovation department of a major law firm where his work focused on legal technology implementation and process improvement initiatives.

Gloria is a corporate attorney with over a decade of experience advising on complex M&A, financing, and commercial transactions within both international law firm and startup settings. Passionate about process improvement and legal innovation, Gloria joined ClearyX as a subject matter expert to help develop, implement, and evaluate its transactional products and legal services, with a focus on increasing efficiencies and delivering better value to clients.

Transactions Manager – Real Estate

Dorothy worked as a solicitor with a focus on real estate and handled transactions from residential conveyances to multi-party large scale phased developments. One of the things she enjoyed was finding ways to streamline or automate bits of pieces of high volume work with whatever tools were available, and that interest led her to join ClearyX.

Nicholas Festa focuses on using transactional legal tech to increase efficiencies in the mergers & acquisitions due diligence process. His prior experience includes working in e-discovery and due diligence at another Vault top 50 law firm.

Grace obtained her Master of Laws from Columbia Law School in 2019. After graduating, she worked for the New York State Unified Court System, initially as a Law Clerk then as an Appellate Court Attorney. Prior to moving to the US, Grace worked for an international law firm in Asia for 4 years.

2018 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and former Diversity Editor of Georgetown Law Journal. Previous practice experience in the areas of real estate finance and e-discovery.

Deborah is a dual qualified lawyer with experience in transactional work and legal consulting. With experience spanning multiple jurisdictions and practice areas, Deborah brings a unique perspective and expertise to her work. She holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Lagos, a Master degree in Energy and Natural Resources Law from the Queen Mary university of London. Deborah joined the team in January 2022.

Tom graduated in Law and has completed his LPC. Tom brings a wealth of experience to the team. Having worked in two large, innovative transactional teams in the UK, he has plenty of experience of working as part of an innovative team to deliver client needs. Tom has in-depth experience of working on large transactions, using technology, innovation and collaboration to help teams achieve intense deadlines and help client deliver large mandates.

Kaitland graduated from the University of Alberta with her JD in 2019. After graduation she worked at a large regional firm practicing primarily in corporate commercial, real estate, wills and estates.

Nicole graduated with a JD from the University of New Brunswick Faculty of Law in 2016. She was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2017 and most recently practiced at a full service regional law firm. Her prior experience includes employment law, human rights law, professional regulation and administrative law. Nicole is passionate about communication and looks forward to connecting with clients and supporting client services and employment projects.

Edgar brings extensive eDiscovery experience acquired representing clients in the global financial services, insurance, health care, transportation and energy industries.  His work experience includes managing cross-border and domestic eDiscovery projects for AM Law 50 firms in New York and the Bay Area.

Owen holds a JD from Western Law and a MSc from Oxford University. His prior experience includes working in a venture capital fund with a focus on emerging technologies. He is passionate about delivering legal services more efficiently using legal tech.

Josh completed the combined BCom/JD program at Queen’s University in 2019. Josh then worked as a corporate lawyer at a large Canadian law firm where he gained experience advising on M&A transactions. During his time working as a corporate lawyer, Josh grew a passion for using technology and innovation to help streamline the delivery of legal services and offer better value to clients.

With a law degree and specialized Masters in Innovation, Technology and the Law from the University of Edinburgh, Iain possesses a unique skill set that combines legal expertise with a deep understanding of emerging technologies. Iain began his career in Dublin at a world leading RegTech company before transitioning to two innovative corporate law firms in London. There, he developed a talent for designing and building bespoke client solutions to bolster the delivery of legal services. Experienced in spearheading projects and leading teams, Iain is committed to transforming the future of legal services through technology and forward-thinking approaches.
